Guided by instinct, David focuses on his strengths as a colorist and expressionist in his continuing shift from realism to abstraction to achieve more emotional impact in his work.
"I do not paint to reflect what I see before me, but to share my internalized response to it. In my current work, I find myself loosening up, digging deeper, becoming less literal—engaging more of my soul while relying less on my eyes and hands to do the heavy lifting. As a result, I strive to present viewers with more compelling, less expected imagery that in many ways is a culmination of decades of observing and experiencing the world from countless perspectives."
